German Logistics Prize 2000
Munich Airport (FMG) was awarded the German Logistics Prize 2000 at a Senate Reception at the ESTREL Hotel in Berlin.
October 18, 2000
The jury of the Federal Logistics Association honored FMG for the exemplary IT systems it uses to ensure smooth and efficient handling operations at the airport. Munich Airport sees this honor as "an obligation to maintain and build on the quality standard we have achieved," said Klaus Brendlin, the airport's executive vice president for technical management at the awards ceremony. He added, "This prize will spur us on to improve the quality of service for our customers even more in the future." Past winners of the German Logistics Prize, which was awarded this year for the 17th time, include numerous renowned German corporations.
Major air traffic facilities like Munich Airport are inevitably highly complex operations with a diverse and complicated organizational structure. The above-average air traffic growth in Munich and the airport's ongoing development as Germany's number two air traffic hub have posed major logistical challenges in recent years.

Munich Airport has accompanied its development
Consequently, Munich Airport has accompanied its development as an air transport hub in recent years with the establishment of a homogeneous, high-performance IT system. This has enabled Munich to maintain its minimum transfer time of 35 minutes - the fastest in Europe - despite increasing passenger traffic. The hallmarks of the Munich solution, which now serves as a model for many other airports, are the fast and flexible availability of data for airport operations coupled with uncompromising reliability.
The prize is the second logistics prize awarded to Munich Airport. In 1992 the airport received the Honorary Prize of the "Gesellschaft für Organisation e.V." in recognition of the logistical feat of moving from the old location in Munich-Riem to the new facility in Erdinger Moos, an operation that received world-wide coverage.
