Getting to the airport by car

In this section we provide answers to frequently asked questions on your trip to the airport. We explain what information you should enter in an online route planner or your car's navigation system to get to Munich Airport.
  1. What postal code should I enter for Munich Airport in my route planner to get directions straight to the terminal? We recommend the following steps for finding Munich Airport with any online route planner:

    In some route planners, ‘Freising’ must be entered as the city because the airport’s postal code is located in the district of Freising.
  2. What data do I have to enter in my GPS navigation system to get to Munich Airport? We recommend the following steps for finding Munich Airport with any car navigation system:

    To get to the administration building, use the following input:
    Street: Nordallee,
    City: Freising

    The following input will get you to the terminal:
    Street: Terminalstrasse Mitte
    City: 85445 Oberding

    Alternatively: Instead of selecting city and street, click “Special destinations” or "Points of Interest" (possibly designated as “Sonderziele", "Spezielle Ziele" or "Überregionale Ziele" in a German-language system) and then select "Flughäfen" (Airports) in the list.

    Your system will then offer Munich Airport among the possible selections, and will retrieve the route to the airport with no need for you to enter data.

    Under Munich Airport (Flughafen München) you can then choose from a list of specific destinations at the airport (“Point of Interest” - POI) such as parking lots, attractions and restaurants.
  3. How long does it take to get to the Munich city center by car? Depending on traffic, it takes about 45 minutes to drive into Munich.
  4. Can I park my van in one of the multistory car parks? There are special car parks, P41 and P51, for vehicles more than 2.05 meters high. They are signposted as Remote and ‘Urlauber’ parking areas. You will find their locations on our website:

  5. How far is the airport from Munich? The airport is about 32 kilometers (20 miles) north-east of Munich.

  6. Where is the best place to park my car when I go on a long trip? We recommend the P5, P7 and P8 parking facilities for long-term parking (eight days or longer). They are located between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

    The P41 and P81 vacationer parking areas offer special rates. They are served by shuttle buses that leave for the terminals every 20 minutes.

  7. If my car won't start or has another problem when I return from my trip, what can I do? Contact the Parking Office by pressing the CALL button on the parking payment machine or the exit barriers to request assistance with starting your vehicle.
