April 14, 2000: Cornerstone laid for Terminal 2
Prof. Kurt Faltlhauser, the Bavarian finance minister and chairman of the Supervisory Board of Munich Airport, Jürgen Weber, the chairman of the Management Board of Lufthansa AG, and Willi Hermsen, the CEO of FMG, were on hand to lay the cornerstone for Terminal 2. The new terminal is a joint project of Munich Airport and Deutsche Lufthansa AG, representing a first in the international airport world. Never before have an airport operator and an airline teamed up to share entrepreneurial responsibility for building and operating a terminal. FMG is carrying 60% of the construction costs for the new terminal building, and Lufthansa will contribute 40% of the financing. FMG will also finance the land-side and air-side infrastructure needed for the new terminal. The new terminal is scheduled to open in 2003.
