September 11: Flight operations heavily impacted by terrorist attacks in New York
Because of the terrorist attacks in the USA and the resulting closure of US airspace, all flights underway from Munich to destinations in the USA are rerouted. All other air traffic operates on schedule. Intensified security screening causes considerable delays and waiting times in the passenger handling process. For security reasons, all airport tours and visits to facilities are canceled until further notice. By September 16, 2001, international air traffic is back to normal. Police patrols of the airport property are stepped up.
