October 12: Anniversary celebration for FMG, the Munich Airport operating company
60 years ago today, the state of Bavaria and its capital, the city of Munich, established the airport operating company Flughafen München-Riem Gesellschaft mbH (FMG). At that time, FMG had 134 employees. Today about 30,000 employees work for 550 companies on the airport campus, including 7,400 with the FMG Group. In the first year, the airport handled 28,970 passengers at the old Riem location, as compared with more than 32.7 million in 2008 – a more than thousand-fold increase over that period.

1. April: MUC puts an energy-saving solar-powered air conditioning unit into operation in the staff canteen in the freight terminal. When no cooling is needed, the warm water from the solar collectors is used for heating and to heat sanitary water.

April: FMG's first sponsoring report provides information on the airport's involvement in the surrounding region. For many years, FMG has sponsored young athletes in neighboring communities, educational facilities, and social and cultural programs.

December: FMG's moving experts land yet another major contract: They will be in charge of the entire logistics for the move to the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport in Germany's capital as well as the test operations.
