May 17, 1992: Opening of the new airport: Munich II
Start of operations at the new Munich Airport. On the first day, a total of 542 scheduled and charter flights take off and land.

March 14 to April 20: Open house at the new Munich Airport. Residents from the surrounding area are invited to see the new airport for themselves prior to its official opening.

May 11: Six days before the start of operations, 2,000 guests of honor, including Queen Silvia of Sweden, attend the opening ceremony. An Airbus A340 named after Franz Josef Strauss, the airport's namesake, is cleared for take-off.
