Anesthesia

At the Munich Airport Clinic

Precision anesthesia provided by skilled team

At the Anesthesia Department of the Munich Airport Clinic, all common anesthesia procedures are performed by our experienced anesthesia team, consisting of physicians and anesthesia nursing staff. The anesthesia techniques applied include general anesthesia, various regional anesthesia techniques, as well as sedoanalgesia (twilight sleep).

Our anesthesia workstations' modern equipment, combined with the high expertise of our anesthesia team, ensures the highest level of safety during the monitoring and administration of anesthesia. As a patient, you will be continuously cared for by our team throughout your time in the operating room. This care includes escorting you to the operating area, initiating anesthesia tailored to your needs, monitoring your breathing, heart, and circulation during the procedure, as well as providing post-operative care in the recovery room.

The anesthesia techniques at the Munich Airport Clinic

General anesthesia via laryngeal mask or intubation

At the clinics of the Munich Airport Clinic, general anesthesia is utilized for more extensive surgical procedures to ensure patients do not experience pain, minimize movements, and have no recollection of the procedure. During anesthesia, the patient is typically artificially ventilated either via a laryngeal mask or through intubation using a ventilator.

Anesthetic regional techniques

In contrast to general anesthesia, the patient remains awake and conscious during the application of regional anesthesia techniques, eliminating the need for artificial ventilation. The purpose of regional anesthesia techniques is to block pain during a surgical procedure or medical intervention. Our anesthesiologists achieve this by injecting local anesthetics near relevant nerves, thereby blocking the transmission of pain from specific areas of the body to the central nervous system, a process known as nerve and pain blockade. As a specialized form of regional anesthesia, spinal anesthesia is performed by the anesthesiology team at the Munich Airport Clinic for surgical procedures below the navel, in the pelvic area, and on the legs. In this technique, local anesthetics are injected into the cerebrospinal fluid space of the spinal cord.

Sedation analgesia

During sedation analgesia, an anesthesiologist combines the administration of a sedative to calm and relax the patient with a pain-relieving medication (analgesic). Sedation analgesia is commonly used for minor procedures or diagnostic tests where general anesthesia is not required.
