Munich Airport records 70% more passengers than in previous year

Munich Airport continued its recovery in first quarter of 2023, with around seven million passengers counted between January and March. This was 70% more than in the same period of the previous year. Due to the restrictions on international travel as a result of the pandemic, only a little over four million passengers had used Munich Airport for a flight in the first quarter of 2021. With its current passenger volume, Munich Airport has reached around 70% of the record level from the pre-crisis year 2019.

A little over 62,000 take-offs and landings were registered in the first three months of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of around 23%. Strong demand for flighted led to a new record for aircraft capacity utilization. The volume of cargo handled also increased again, with the total figure for air freight and air mail growing by 5% to more than 67,000 metric tons.
