A-CDM History Berlin-Brandenburg (BER)

In preparation for the planned start of operations at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport (BER), the A-CDM project was launched as a joint effort by the airport operating company FBB and DFS (German Air Traffic Control). The partners developed the A-CDM process as well as new traffic management systems which are intended to provide optimal support for that process. Final testing was carried out on the NMOC interface. The way was clear for a successful rollout of the A-CDM process at BER.

After the failed launch of BER, the decision was made to transfer the new process and the new traffic management systems to Berlin-Schönefeld Airport (SXF). The goal was and still remains to make good use of the time until BER goes into operation, to continue developing the process and systems locally, and also to start reaping the benefits of the process immediately at SXF.

Starting in mid-2019, adaptation of the A-CDM process for BER was completed by FBB and DFS and integrated into the partners’ processes at the airport. The A-CDM process SXF will be merged seamlessly into the A-CDM process BER on 1st November 2020.

A-CDM History Düsseldorf (DUS)

Following a successful test phase with NMOC, Düsseldorf Airport became the sixth airport in Europe to fully implement A-CDM on April 24, 2013.

The A-CDM project conducted jointly by German Air Traffic Control and Düsseldorf Airport was mapped out starting in the summer of 2009 on the basis of the European Airport-CDM Implementation Manual by Eurocontrol and the German Harmonization of A-CDM initiative. For the implementation, new operating procedures were developed, existing IT systems adapted and new A-CDM-related systems expanded.

With another new development, the Airport Control Center (ACC), Düsseldorf Airport reached a new dimension in the interdisciplinary cooperation with its A-CDM partners. Since then, the local CDM management has maintained close contact with all process participants and the other A-CDM airports in order to continue developing the process in response to local and network-related factors.

A-CDM History Frankfurt (FRA)

Airport CDM was successfully launched at Frankfurt Airport (Fraport) on February 23, 2011, making it the fourth European airport to fully implement the A-CDM process.

In the summer of 2008, the A-CDM project was jointly initiated by Fraport and DFS (German Air Traffic Control). The project developed the A-CDM process while adapting and expanding the airport systems to meet the data communication requirements.

After the scheduled end of the project, local CDM management was set up at the beginning of 2012. Since then, the A-CDM team, staffed by former project team members, has supported process partners and procedures and worked on further developments.

A-CDM procedures and the exchange of data have met with an enthusiastic response from local partners. Compliance with procedures and quality standards is continually monitored on the basis of a new KPI system. Each year an A-CDM forum takes place where partners can discuss their experiences and make suggestions.

A-CDM History Hamburg (HAM)

Following a successful NMOC test phase, Hamburg Airport became the sixth airport in Germany to fully implement Airport CDM in August 2017.

In 2012 the Airport CDM project was launched by the project partners Flughafen Hamburg GmbH and German Air Traffic Control (DFS). During that project phase, the partners developed new operating procedures, completely restructured the turnaround processes, and replaced some IT systems with new developments and adapted them to the Airport CDM requirements.

Following the successful test phase at the beginning of 2017 and full implementation in August, work is now going ahead to develop KPI concepts and carry out ongoing adaptations to local circumstances and network factors.

A-CDM History Leipzig/Halle Airport

Together with Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH and other partners Leipzig/Halle Airport has been developing ACDM@LEJ since summer 2018.

The initial phase was successfully completed in March 2020. Based on the insights gained it has been decided to further pursue the project ACDM@LEJ and to continue with the planning phase. Within the scope of this phase the interdisciplinary project team has been developing the A-CDM procedure for LEJ since the beginning of 2022.

A-CDM history Munich (MUC)

After a project phase lasting almost three years, followed by a one-year testing period, Airport CDM went into regular operation on June 7 2007. That made Munich the first airport in Europe to implement a standard A-CDM process.

It was based on the European Airport CDM, which was developed in a project under the European Airport Program. It also utilized the experience and insights gained in the preceding COB procedures.

The practical knowledge and experience from Airport CDM in Munich were used in the later European developments such as the establishment of operational and technical standards (Eurocontrol/Eurocae).

For the assessment and management of Airport CDM, coordinated key performance indicators were developed. They are used to produce monthly and annual reports, which are sent to the participating partners.

A-CDM History Stuttgart (STR)

Stuttgart Airport has been a fully implemented A-CDM airport since October 3, 2014. Before that, in several months of test operations, it successfully demonstrated the process-based cooperation of local partners and the exchange of data with NMOC.

In the summer of 2010 the Airport-CDM was launched by the project partners Stuttgart Airport and German Air Traffic Control (DFS). In close cooperation with the project team, the entire turnaround process was restructured and adapted to the requirements of A-CDM. At the same time, the IT system specifications were defined for implementing A-CDM in regular operations.

After the end of the project phase, the local A-CDM team coordinated the cooperation of all project partners and developed the implemented procedures to meet requirements. At the same time, the compliance and quality of the procedures were monitored continually under a KPI concept.
