August 8, 2025

A seven-meter-high obstacle course where you can fly across the Munich Airport Center forum like a real ninja. An adventure playground that invites children from all continents to romp around. Sunny spots with refreshing drinks and a unique view of the hustle and bustle at the airport. Or a bike tour where young and old can learn more about nature conservation in a playful way while marveling at planes taking off and landing.

These are just some of the experiences that sun worshippers, families, and active vacationers can expect at the airport during the summer holidays.

For budding ninjas and action lovers

During Ninja Days, the MAC-Forum will be transformed into an action arena from August 23 to September 7. Ninja is a trendy sport in which athletes must overcome a course of spectacular climbing, jumping, and balancing obstacles—known from the TV show Ninja Warrior. Speed, strength, coordination, body control, and mental strength are required.

The Ninja Champions Series kicks off on August 23: On a 50-meter-long and over seven-meter-high course, 50 professionals from more than 16 nations will compete in a thrilling competition. "A sporting event in a class of its own! Our course is the largest and most technically demanding competition course of its kind," says Markus Preiß, Head of Commercial Marketing at Munich Airport. On August 24, the top athletes will pass on their tips and tricks to ambitious young ninjas in exclusive workshops.

From August 25 to September 7, it's "Ninja for everyone": "This hands-on event gives the whole family the chance to try out the sport and just have fun," explains Preiß. There are courses with different levels of difficulty and an extra course for younger children. Experienced athletes will be on hand to assist visitors of all ages with their training. Tickets must be booked online in advance for all Ninja Days events, including free admission to the professional competition on August 23.

For nature lovers and athletic airport explorers

The approximately 19-kilometer-long environmental bike path around the airport is an interactive bike tour that is suitable for the whole family. It takes about two to three hours to cycle around the entire airport grounds.

There is plenty to discover along the way: cyclists can not only watch the big "birds" – planes taking off and landing – but, with a little luck, also spot rare bird species on the airport meadows.

Information about the bird sanctuary, water management, and honey monitoring can be accessed via QR code at 17 themed stations. "As a major international airport, we have been relying on a certified environmental management system for over 20 years. This also includes making environmental issues visible to our guests. The environmental bike path makes a major contribution to this by providing simple and understandable information about some of our environmental protection priorities," says Johannes Haas, climate protection and interdisciplinary environmental tasks officer at Munich Airport.

For connoisseurs and sun worshippers

Relaxing in the sun with a drink and delicious food while soaking up the airport atmosphere – that's what summer feels like, even if you're not going far! There are many restaurants with sunny spots at Munich Airport. For example, a cool beer from the in-house brewery can be enjoyed in the Airbräu beer garden in the MAC Forum.

Incidentally, Airbräu was recently awarded for the top quality of its dishes and beers. As part of the "Genussküche" initiative, the restaurant received two certificates, namely "Ausgezeichnete GenussKüche" (Excellent Gourmet Cuisine) and "Ausgezeichnete Bierkultur" (Excellent Beer Culture).

The sun terrace of the Sportalm in Terminal 2 on level 04 offers a great view of the hustle and bustle in the MAC Forum, especially during Ninja Days. Whether for lunch or a ginger spritz, this is the place to be for sun worshippers. If you want an unobstructed view of the apron, take a stroll to the viewing terrace in Terminal 2 and take a seat in the Cloud 7 restaurant. With a smoothie and homemade crêpes, you'll feel like you're on cloud nine in no time.

Kids can play and climb to their hearts' content on the huge adventure playground in the visitor park – past Asian dragon temples, through the climbing jungle in South America, and into the African desert. Here, the continents become a tangible experience. Older children can practice their accuracy at the neighboring mini golf course – tickets are available at Tante Ju's Speisenwerkstatt.

The family restaurant with beer garden not only offers child-friendly menus, but also a great view of the playground and the visitor hill. Speaking of the visitor hill: from a height of 28 meters, you can watch the action on the apron from here.

If you want to delve deeper into the world of airports and learn, for example, how suitcases and catering get onto the plane or how aircraft are refueled, book an airport tour and take the bus right into the heart of the action on the apron. The tours start at the visitor park's airport shop and last about an hour.
