Preparing for your journey


Informing the airline of your assistance requirements

When you book your trip, or no later than 48 hours before your planned departure time, inform your airline, travel organizer or travel agent how much assistance you require.

Please inform your airline if ...

  • you are traveling with a battery-operated wheelchair or a battery-operated mobility aid, and inform your airline of the type of battery used. When you check in, you must secure and disconnect the batteries yourself and the terminals must be insulated. The wheelchair must then be checked in at the bulky luggage counter.
  • you are traveling with a recognized service animal (SVAN, e.g. a guide dog, hearing dog, diabetic alert dog, seizure dog). They can accompany you in the cabin free of charge on all flights.
  • you wish to use the Mobility Service during your time at the airport.

Please be aware that ...

  • you should anticipate longer waiting times at the airport if you do not register on time.
  • we therefore ask you to plan sufficient time for your journey. Be at the terminal early but not before the desk opens. You can ask your airline how long before departure the desks open.

Mobility Service

The Mobility Service at Munich Airport helps people with limited mobility or some form of impairment on their journeys.

The Mobility Service can be booked exclusively through your airline or your travel organizer. You cannot book the Mobility Service directly.

When you book your trip, or no later than 48 hours before departure, inform your airline, travel organizer or travel agent how much assistance you require.

Classifying your degree of mobility

The following international classifications will help you to classify the extent of your mobility restriction:

WCHR: Passenger can walk short distances and can walk up and down stairs.
WCHS: Passenger can walk short distances but cannot walk up and down stairs.
WCHC: Passenger cannot walk independently and cannot walk up and down stairs.
BLND: Passenger is visually impaired.
DEAF: Passenger is hearing impaired.
BLND-DEAF: Passenger has impaired vision and hearing.
DPNA: Disabled passenger with intellectual or developmental disability.

Please consider the following when classifying your degree of mobility:


Even if you normally get around without assistance, please bear in mind that there are often long distances to cover on foot at the airport.

Generally, it is not necessary to use stairs at Munich Airport. However, to get to the aircraft, you will have to cross boarding bridges with an incline of up to 10%. If your aircraft lands at a remote position, you will be taken to it on a low-floor bus. Depending on the type of aircraft, you may also have to climb stairs.

If you are unable to negotiate these obstacles, please do not hesitate to choose the WCHS or WCHC categories. This will ensure that you get the assistance you need.

Dropping off a passenger

Accessible short-term parking

If you are brought to the airport or picked up by car, you can use the short-term parking zone directly in front of the departures and arrivals areas of Terminal 1. At Terminal 2, the south access road is for private cars. You can also park in the P20 garage on the south access road.


Reduced parking fees

If you have an identity card for a person with disabilities you will receive a discount of 50% on the standard parking fees. You will also receive this discount if you are accompanying a person with severe disabilities to the airport.

Parking for less than five hours is free of charge.

Please proceed as follows:

  1. At the entrance to the parking garage /at the terminal access road, press the button on the intercom and inform the parking office that you are accompanying a person with disabilities to departures
  2. When paying at the pay station, press the button on the intercom again in order to receive the discount
  3. You can then leave with your paid ticket

Arriving in your own car

Long-term parking near the terminal

Parking near the terminal can be found opposite Terminal 1 on level 03 in the immediate vicinity of the elevators. If you are departing from Terminal 2, parking near the terminal can be found on level 03 and level 05 of the north wing of P20.

Accessible parking spaces are available in all parking garages at Munich Airport. They are located either on the same level as the entrance to the terminal or in the immediate vicinity of the elevators.

These parking spaces cannot be reserved.

For wheelchair users: Our parking ticket machines are positioned so that they can also be used by wheelchair users.

For deaf or hearing-impaired individuals: At all locations with multiple parking ticket machines, at least one machine is equipped with an induction loop. The machines equipped with this feature are marked with the international symbol for induction systems.

Reduced parking fees

If you have an identity card for a person with disabilities you will receive a discount of 50% on the standard parking fees.

The discount does not apply to online bookings or to additional services (e.g. electric charging, valet services) or in special parking areas (e.g. XXL parking)

The discount can be claimed at the parking office in the central area, level 03. On request, you can simply pay an airport employee on-site, who can be called using the intercom button on any pay station.

Picking up a passenger

If you pick up a passenger at the airport by car, you can use the short-term parking zone directly in front of the departures and arrivals areas of Terminal 1. At Terminal 2, the south access road is for private cars. You can also park in the P20 garage on the south access road.

Arriving & departing by public transport

By train:

The S1 or S8 will take you to the rapid transit (S-Bahn) station under Munich Airport Center (MAC, level 02). You can take escalators or wheelchair-friendly elevators to the ground floor (level 03) of Munch Airport Center. From here, you can access Terminal 1 directly or Terminal 2 through the forum of Munich Airport Center.

By bus:

All our bus services stop:

  • directly in front of the Munich Airport Center (ground floor)
  • at areas A and D of Terminal 1 (ground floor)
  • at the north access road for Terminal 2 (level 04)

Access

Munich Airport is accessible at ground level.

Further information:
  • All information desks and lounges are equipped with induction loops.
  • The desks at the main information point are wheelchair accessible.
  • There are Mobility Service Points where you can stay until the start of your assisted travel process.
  • Sunflower Program: People with invisible disabilities use the internationally recognized symbol — a yellow sunflower on a green background — to indicate that they may need additional support or more time. 

Your path to security control

As a passenger with disabilities, please use the "Fastlane" to get to security and passport control. Look out for the wheelchair symbol.

Passengers with pacemakers, cochlea implants or prostheses can request alternative screening without probes. Please speak to the screening personnel. Screening will be made easier with a medical certificate.
