Construction projects at Munich Airport

Building the airport's future

Since its opening in 1992, Munich Airport has expanded rapidly – and the journey continues: Visitors to the airport these days are greeted by the sight of busy work crews, excavation equipment and cranes.

On the AirSite West site, new buildings at the future LabCampus innovation center are going up. For access to the site, a new transportation node has been developed. At the center of the airport, a new Terminal 1 Pier is being built. In addition, the airport is expanding its parking facilities.

Summary of construction projects

1. Mobility Center

South of Munich Airport Center, the airport is planning a new rental car center with around 5,600 parking spaces. It is scheduled to open in 2028.

2. ibis Styles hotel

A third hotel has been built on the airport grounds south of the Novotel. The site now features a total of 358 new hotel rooms, a 1,000-square-meter living lobby with a restaurant, as well as two conference rooms and a fitness area, among other amenities. The hotel’s façade features a slatted structure that incorporates the “Isar” theme into its design and blends seamlessly into the LabCampus development area.

The hotel is scheduled to officially open in June 2026.
